Protection and Restoration of Environmental Resources

AH - Ganga River Studies & Research

Amrithagiri Himalaya (AH) serves with deep reverence and humility as a contributing partner in the sacred task of preserving and restoring the Holy Ganga, the lifeline of India’s culture and civilization. In collaboration with the University of Kerala (UoK), Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU), and other esteemed academic institutions, AH supports research and fieldwork under the guidance of the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and allied government bodies.

Rooted in devotion and guided by scientific integrity, AH assists in documentation, ecological assessments, and community awareness programs. These efforts seek not recognition but service — to honor the river that nourishes both land and soul. Through this humble participation, Amrithagiri Himalaya reaffirms its faith that protecting Mother Ganga is not merely environmental work, but a sacred duty to the Nation and Nature alike.

Riverbanks and the Himalaya

At Amrithagiri Himalaya (AH), our work flows with deep respect for the people and spirit of the Himalayan region. We strive to strengthen local self-governance and empower villagers by protecting their livelihoods, particularly in agriculture and traditional crafts. Through sustainable farming practices, equitable access to natural resources, and awareness programmes, AH supports communities in living with dignity and self-reliance.

Under the thoughtful guidance of Dr. Sameer Das – Calcutta University, and in collaboration with dedicated institutions, scholars and local leaders, we seek to understand and document the challenges of rural Himalayan life — from access to education and healthcare through our rural outreach programs conducted periodically (VSPs or Village Sampark Program – Gram Sampark Abhiyan)

The ongoing migration of Himalayan villagers to the plains poses a serious concern, threatening not only livelihoods but also the their cultural heritage.

Flora and Fauna

We view the forests, rivers, mountains, and every living being as sacred expressions of one universal life. Our commitment to protecting flora and fauna arises not merely from environmental obligation but from a deep reverence for the web of creation that sustains us all.

Through reforestation drives, soil and water conservation, and sustainable land management, AH strives to restore the natural resilience of ecosystems along the Himalayan belt. Every sapling planted, every habitat restored, and every riverbank cleaned is a humble act of gratitude to Mother Earth, who shelters all beings that share a common home.

We promote eco-spiritual awareness and community participation to counter deforestation, habitat loss, and species endangerment. Local villagers, students, and researchers join hands with us to protect native trees, medicinal plants, and endangered wildlife.

A special focus of AH’s ecological mission is research on the precious Himalayan herbs known for their therapeutic and rejuvenating properties. In collaboration with scholars and experts, AH promotes Ayurveda as a sustainable path to health and well-being.

Climate Change

AH employs to build community resilience through disaster management webinars, training sessions, and participatory workshops in collaboration with University of Kerala (UoK), Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU), and other academic partners.

As part of its Village Sampark Programmes (VSPs), AH educates local population on reforestation, soil and water conservation and tree planting, thereby nurturing a culture of ecological care and preparedness. These initiatives encourage villagers to learn scientific methods for the prevention of soil erosion and to mitigate climate impacts.

Aligned with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) programmes, and UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13: Climate Action, SDG 15: Life on Land, and SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation), we support government policies through research, outreach, and community training.

With the spirit of national service, AH works hand-in-hand with academicians, local leaders and volunteers, empowering Himalayan communities to live sustainably, respond wisely to natural calamities, and perpetuate harmony with nature.
