The Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj, a symbol of spirituality and unity, is renowned for its significant ‘Snan’ or holy bath dates, where devotees take dips in sacred waters believed to cleanse the soul and make the attainment of Moksha easier.
The Snan, which is the most important ritual of the Mahakumbh, is believed to help the devotees get rid of sins and bestow upon them the boon of liberation from the cycle of birth and rebirth.
Every day of the Kumbh mela which falls between 13th January to 26th February of 2025 is auspicious and recommended for holy dip in the Sangam. But certain dates are deemed especially sacred for this ritual. The significant days can be briefly understood as below.
(1) Paush Purnima : January 13, 2025: This day marks the beginning of the Kumbh Mela. Purnima means the full moon and Paush is the tenth month of the Hindu calendar. It is believed that a dip on this day is believed to destroy all the sins of a person.
(2) Makar Sankranti : January 14, 2025: The next day of the Paush Purnima is Makar Sankranti. It marks the day when the sun begins its northward journey, entering the zodiac sign of Capricorn. This transition is symbolic of leaving behind darkness and ushering in light. This day is again considered very auspicious for the Snan.
(3) Mauni Amavasya : January 29, 2025: This day is considered the most auspicious Snan day, the word ‘Mauni’ denotes the observance of silence. It is believed that on this new moon day, the universe absorbed the primal sound of ‘Om’. Many sages and hermits maintain a vow of silence and meditate on the riverbanks on this day before and after the Snan.
(4) Basant Panchami : February 3, 2025: The day marks the onset of the spring season, this day is dedicated to the goddess of knowledge, Saraswati. A dip on this day is believed to grant wisdom and enlightenment.
(5) Maghi Purnima: February 12, 2025: This day is the full moon day in the month of Magh. This Snan commemorates the day when the Aryan race is believed to have settled along the banks of the holy rivers.
(6) Maha Shivratri : February 26, 2025: Towards end of the Kumbh Mela, the culminating day Maha Shivratri is the day dedicated to Lord Shiva. Taking a bath on this day is akin to being a part of the cosmic dance of Shiva, and it’s believed to purify one’s soul and spirit.
Conclusion
Holy Snan on the auspicious days and even all other days for the devotees is not just about the ritual but the experience. The days leading to these dates witness a palpable energy and enthusiasm. More than the act of taking a dip in the Sangam or the Snan, the preparations and anticipation which leads to it is most pious. That is what sets apart the great Indian civilisation.

मकर संक्रांति: 14 जनवरी, 2025: पौष पूर्णिमा का अगला दिन मकर संक्रांति है। यह उस दिन को चिह्नित करता है जब सूर्य अपनी उत्तर की ओर यात्रा शुरू करता है और मकर राशि में प्रवेश करता है। यह दिन अंधेरे को पीछे छोड़ने और प्रकाश में प्रवेश करने का प्रतीक है। इस दिन को भी स्नान के लिए बहुत शुभ माना जाता है।
मौनी अमावस्या: 29 जनवरी, 2025: इस दिन को सबसे शुभ स्नान दिवस माना जाता है, शब्द 'मौनी' मौन के पालन को दर्शाता है। यह माना जाता है कि इस नए चंद्रमा के दिन, ब्रह्मांड में 'ओम' की मौलिक ध्वनि को अवशोषित हुआ था। कई ऋषि इस दिन स्नान से पहले और बाद में नदी किनारे मौन और ध्यान का व्रत करते है।
बसंत पंचमी: 3 फरवरी, 2025: यह दिन बसंत के मौसम की शुरुआत को चिह्नित करता है, यह दिन ज्ञान की देवी, सरस्वती को समर्पित है। इस दिन के स्नान को ज्ञान प्राप्ति के लिए माना जाता है।
माघी पूर्णिमा: 12 फरवरी, 2025: यह दिन माघ के महीने में पूर्णिमा का दिन है। यह स्नान उस दिन को याद करता है जब आर्य लोग पवित्र नदियों के तट पर बसे थे।
महाशिवरात्रि: 26 फरवरी, 2025: कुंभ मेला के अंत में समापन दिवस महा शिवरात्रि का दिन है जो भगवान शिव को समर्पित है। इस दिन स्नान करना शिव के लौकिक नृत्य का हिस्सा बनने के समान है, और यह किसी की आत्मा को शुद्ध करने के लिए असरदार माना जाता है।
